Jay was born in Portland, Or. and moved to Hendersonville at age 3. He graduated from Hendersonville High School and UNC-Chapel Hill. Moved to Salt Lake City and sold cars for 5 years before returning to Egolf Motors in 2000. Acquired Brevard Chrysler (2004), Brevard Ford (2008) and sold Hendersonville Chrysler (2013) and now work full time in Brevard.
